After 8 flights and 24 thousand kilometers later, I have finally made it back to Tokyo with my work in visa in hand! It feels nice to be back, this place fits me like a glove. On the train from the airport to my place my mind started to drift, I’m not sure if it was from being dead tired or what. I’m back in a land where I don’t understand what people are saying, so I go into my body reading Language mode. Over the years of traveling I have gotten use to not understanding people. I have become somewhat of a pro and reading people’s body Language, the so-called “Universal Language”. The Japanese are a very reserved bunch, and with that I feel that their face hold soo much life locked away behind their friendly smiles and porcelain white skin. On the train a schoolgirl around 13 years old sat next to me making Origami. I tired to watch her through the corner of my eye. When she got up to get off at her stop, she turned to me and handed me the different Origami piece she had made and said “For you.” The Japanese are such friendly people. This is going to be the start of my new blog… “Turning Japanese” I will be documenting my experience of living and learning the Japanese ways. There are soo many crazy and interesting things here in Japan that I cant wait to write about and capture on film. So for today (Day 1) was spent setting up appointments to see apartments and getting some much needed sleep. Goodnight for now!

After two weeks flying around the world, I finally now have my Japanese work visa in my hand! I have spent the last week back in Florida visiting my family. It was nice to see everyone again. It is sometimes hard to go home and see my family getting older. The hardest part was saying goodbye to my favorite person in the world… my pug dog “Pugsley”. He is 15 years old and this is for sure the last time i will see him…
I am looking forward to getting back to Tokyo to start my new life!

Today the phrase “I had a long day” took on a whole new meaning. For the most part a day can only be so long… it’s mathematical you have 24 hours in a day. But not today… my Tuesday turned into the longest Tuesday in my life. Tuesday Jan15th 2008 was a whopping 41 hours!!! Some how I was able eat 6 different meals… Mc Donald’s for lunch (Japan) 2 meals on the plane… Burger King for breakfast when I landed (Canada)… Quiznos for lunch…. And I just now ordered a Domino’s pizza for dinner (11:30pm still Tuesday) and yes I know my diet is awesome!!! Flying into Vancouver was a beautiful sight… the sun was rising over the snow peaked mountains, sea planes where landing in the water. I have never been to Vancouver Canada before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I have heard it rains a lot here… but not today. The sun was out and the sky was a bright shade of blue, but the air was cold and had a bitter bit to it. I’m staying with friends of a friend…. Now for some reason it always feels weird entering a stranger’s house. Graydon and Geoff the guys I’m staying with were both at school (College) so they left a key for me. I entered the house kind of like how a detective in the movies would enter a suspects empty house. I looked around the house observing all the interesting decorations. This place is the total bachelors pad… empty beers cans, beer posters on the wall… and even Christmas lights shape like chilly peppers. I was happy about this, since I sorted missed out of the Christmas vibe. This is the kind of place I miss… places that actually have character and feel like someone actually lives there. I have spent the last 3 years in lifeless hotels rooms and creaky beach bungalows. But before I could relax I had to head off to the Japanese embassy to get my freaking work visa (the whole reason I’m here!) The visa process was much easier then I thought, after handing in my application I head down to the harbor to watch the seaplanes. I never thought when I woke up in Japan on Tuesday at 12:30pm that I would be able to fly to Canada apply for my visa all before 12:30pm on Tuesday (Canada time) It’s amazing what you can achieve with flying around the world. Anyway I need some sleep…. This Tuesday has taken its toll on me.

The first few weeks of 2008 have been somewhat of a blur! It’s hard for me to believe that 2007 is over. 2007 was a great year for me. I was fortunate enough to continue my life on the road and was able to see some new places and meet some amazing new friends. I have spent the last few weeks walking the streets of Tokyo with the new Radiohead album as my soundtrack. The weather has been pretty cold for my thin skin… I definitely prefer the hot beach weather. On Tuesday I fly to Vancouver Canada to get my Japanese work visa, and then on the 19th I’m flying to Florida to see my family. It has been a while since I have been home so it will be nice to see everyone again and of course I cant forget to mention that I’m excited to see my dog “The Godfather”. But before I can get use to life back in the United States I will be on a flight back to Tokyo.

Only two days per year the general public is allowed to enter the palace to greet the Emperor and his family. I just watched the movie the Last Samurai… so it was still fresh in my head… so I decided to check it out. I will let my pictures tell the story….
