If there is such a place called “Heaven”, I believe it would be filled with the sounds from the Icelandic band Sigur Ros, and beautiful sights like the ones you see here in Muskoka Canada. Here is some quick shots I slapped together from day 1.
Stopping off at the Famous Hamburger joint “Webbers” is a family tradition for my family and it seems like everyone else that are on their way up to cottage country. You can count on the line to be out the door and the burgers to be fresh and tasty.
For some strange reason (some might call it dumb luck) I always end up going to a country or place right in the middle of some sort of festival or party, and this trip was no different. What’s the chance I would arrive in Windermere on Windermere day? In my case very good! As we pulled into town, fireworks started going off… I thought for a second wow… are these for me? I missed the parade, but I was lucky to catch the fireworks over the lake. I have a good feeling that this trip is going to be a great one! Here are a few photos from that night… as the fireworks went off without warning, I didn’t have time or I should say I forgot to change some settings, so here are the best photos I could manage! What does the word “Home” mean to you? I always thought it meant where you are from. But for example if you are sent to another city for a month for work, and you are out with friends at a bar, you might say I am heading back home… not to your “real” home but your temporary home. I guess it is true, “Home is where your heart is”. For me now, home is a place that just thinking about it brings a smile to my face, a place filled with great food and friendly warm faces.
Upon arrival into Canada I was quickly greeted by the long long immigration lines… the lines at Disney World are shorter then this! It didn’t take long to see that the Canadian citizen line had only 10 or 15 people in it. I then realized hey wait a minute… I’m Canadian… I have a Canadian passport. The immigration guy looked at my passport and said “Welcome Home”. It caught me off guard for a second, and then I said back… “Yeah… welcome home”. He probably thought I was crazy or something.
There really is something magical about Canada, maybe it’s the clean streets, fresh clean air, friendly people and not to mention the pristine lakes. So I find myself yet again in a place I can call “Home”. I feel I’m the luckiest guy in the world to be able to spend 6 weeks in paradise or better known as HOME! Read more…
The word paradise gets thrown around a lot, and I am one that tends to use it quite often. I guess the truth is the world is a pretty freaking awesome and there are tons of places that one can label as “Paradise”.
One place on earth that holds a special place in my heart… is Muskoka Canada. Maybe its because this was the first place I traveled to as a kid, or maybe its just because, it is truly paradise. Muskoka (or better known as Cottage country) is a 2-hour drive north of Toronto. It’s pretty much a weekend get away spot for the rich people that live in Toronto. It’s hard to find a home in Muskoka for under a million dollars, so you have to be pretty loaded to afford a million dollar “weekend home”. Muskoka is filled with movie stars and pro athletes, Goldie Hahn lives down the street… and sometimes Kate Hudson can be spotted cruising around in her boat. Read more…
I just finished watching an interesting documentary called “Aftermath Population Zero”. It’s a CGI dramatization of what will happen when there are no humans left on earth. It’s pretty crazy to think it only took humans 10 thousand years to screw up the planet (most of it within the last 100 years), but once we are gone mother earth can fix things back to normal in a few hundred years. I guess it is true that mankind is pretty much like a virus that is attacking/polluting and killing the planet. I recommend watching this documentary, but it can be a little depressing… but I guess the good thing is… we will be long gone by then!
Another show I watched today is called “Locked up Abroad” one that I do NOT recommend. It seems that this show is produced by George W Bush himself, this is the prefect show for the government to keep it’s citizens at home safe and sound spending their hard earned cash. The show is about horror stories of people being kidnapped while traveling overseas. This show is overly dramatic and fictionalized for good TV ratings. So please do not watch this show unless you plan on never leaving the comfort and safety of your couch!
On a musical note, I am falling in love with the Icelandic band Sigur Ros. There is something peaceful about listening to music that is in a language you do not understand… there is no way to put thought or your own meaning on the words… you just listen to the music the way it was intended. Maybe that’s why I like traveling so much, it’s easy to find things interesting when you don’t understand them. Click the link bellow to listen to Sigur Ros in itunes.
