On July 1st 2008, California passed a law making it illegal to talk on your cell phone while driving unless you have one of those Star Trek ear piece things in your ear (better known as Hands Free). I don’t think this is going to solve the problem because the bottom line is there are just stupid people out there and a “Hands Free device” is not going to make them smarter…. but i guess it’s a start. I have reached a point in my life that I never thought would happen… no I didn’t find the key to life…. (yet). But what I have found…. Is that I am stranded thanks to the ungodly gas prices. Here in Los Angeles gas prices are nearing $5 a gallon. After selling my smart car just a few days ago, I now find myself borrowing my friend’s car, which gets about 15miles (24k) to the gallon. Today I was planning on going hiking, but then I started to calculate how much it would cost to drive to the place where I hike…. I was stopped dead in my tracks! Runyon Canyon is 30 miles away round trip from where I am staying…. 30 miles @ 15miles a gallon = Hiking isn’t worth $10!
It’s crazy to think how people can afford to drive to work; I guess this is nothing new… it just took high gas prices to wake us up.
So what was that war in Iraq for anyways? Definitely wasn’t for oil! GO TEAM BUSH!!!
For most of us, the thought of being famous or getting a lot of attention is something we can only dream of. When I bought my Smart car the sales man said this car is kind of like rock star status… minus the chic’s and drugs. I thought this was a typical sales tactic, but no…. he was right!
You might be thinking, “Seriously Jimmy, what’s wrong with a little attention?” Well that’s what I thought the first week, but after 2 months of people constantly staring at you, asking stupid questions (like does it have an engine?) people taking pictures…. It got old fast!
When I came back home 3 months ago I knew I was only going to be here for a short time, so buying a car sounds pretty stupid right? Well the only reason I got the car other then the fact of the great gas mileage, was that I knew I could sell the car for more when I left… and that is exactly what I did. It’s not often that you can buy a car and then turn around and sell it 3 months later and pocket 2 grand.
It has only been 2 days since I sold my car, and I’m dealing with my fall from grace pretty well. I’m not sure what will happen when I see a Smart car drive by, I might shed a tear, or I might laugh with the thought that my pocket is 2 grand fatter thanks to you Mr. Smarty!
