One Year Older or One Year Wiser?

This has been my longest break from my blog since its conception. Over the last month I have been busy working on some other projects (which I will talk more about later) and for the most part just enjoying my time up here in Canada. Cell phones and the Internet are two words that are not in the Muskokian vocabulary (and I think I just made up the word Muskokian).

Life up here is pretty simple, people come here to get away from the hustle and bustle of the real world… so when in Rome. The song “All Summer Long” by Kid Rock has been the soundtrack to my Canadian Summer. They play the song everywhere, and it does a good job capturing the essence of this place. My birthday and the fact that my Canadian experience is almost over, has brought me out of hiding. I figured if anyone of you has seen my latest video, you would have put 2 and 2 together and realized I have just slip into the swing of things up here.

On your birthday a lot of people tend to say “A year older and A year wiser!” I will take a year wiser as I feel like I am 18 again… maybe that’s because I have been hanging out with 18 to 21 year olds. It really is true… it’s not how old you are but how old you feel. This last year has been an interesting one, one full of experiences that I will never forget. One thing I have noticed, is that no matter where you go in the world…. People are pretty much the same, take away the color of their skin and their religion and we are no different. I know I will get some shit for this one from my Canadian friends, but the truth is the people up here “Canadians” are not much different then their southern brothers. Although this place is probably not the best place for research on the Canadian population, this is for the most part a resort town. As for most resort towns in the world they are packed full of families on vacation and then of course the staff that waits on them. I wish I had time to go into detail on the crazy and weird things that have happened up here… but I will leave it for now.

The other day my grandfather said to me “Jimmy… I don’t care where you go in the world, it doesn’t get better then this!” Well even though he is 84 years old and blind in one eye, I would have to agree with him. But as a kid or for that matter even 2 years ago I would come here and not be able to take it for more then 1 week. After a week I would be climbing the walls bored off my ass. The fact that I have spent almost 6 weeks here with my MOM… means that I am starting to learn to enjoy wherever I am or that I have lost my mind. In a few days I will be back in the air bound for LA for 3 days and then on to Nepal via Bangkok. I promise to write more once I’m back in the “normal” swing of traveling!
