Update (Malaysia)

MeI feel its time for me to do a general update rather then a story. So here is the low down, I have spent the last month in Malaysia exploring some new/old places. Borneo was a highlight and a place i will for sure be heading back to soon. I spent a week or so on the beach in the Perhentain Island working on my tan and my Dutch. I met two dutch girls from Amsterdam Inge and Ciska, and we instantly became great friends. But all good things come to an end or at least i make them end (something im working on). I was planning on flying to the Philippines to research a documentary film on modern day pirates… but after doing a little bit of research in Borneo i found this project to be WAY too dangerous. So i have decided not to go to the Philippines and instead I’m heading back up to Thailand to meet up with Inge and Ciska. Its actually a good thing as i need to put myself on video for a presentation for the Travel Channel and i need someone to film me and also i miss them!

Oh and for you guys that have emailed me asking for more pictures… i am working on it. I don’t have any pictures from my recent trips on me (computer crashed!)… so i will start taking new ones! Also I’m now not just taking photos I’m also shooting High Def video… so soon i will not only have just static pictures but live moving video which should be great. So the game plan is the next month or so in Thailand/Laos and then i will be flying to India in December to film a documentary with me and my Indian friend Ravi (more on that later).

So that’s pretty much it… I’m eating great… i have a great tan… meeting great people… and living life!!! What else can i ask for?

Into the Heart of Borneo

A trip to Borneo isn’t complete without visiting some of the worlds most untouched jungles. But to get off the beaten path and see the real stuff, you must jump on a twin engine prop plane and fly an hour or so deep into the Heart of Borneo. And from there walk/trek 3 days deep into “No man’s land”. So for the next week or so i will be living with some of the different indigenous tribes here in Borneo and hopefully not meeting any head hunters! …. cause i like my head. As cliché as it sounds I’m going to try to learn how to hunt and live like the indigenous people. But who knows what will happen! {vidavee id=”2408″ w=450 h=300 }

Signs from around world

Spit signOne thing you notice when you travel to foreign lands are the crazy signs. This sign is from the stairwell at the place i was staying at in Kota Kinabalu. This sign should be posted everywhere in China since people there like to spit all over the place! But maybe its posted here cause there is a big Chinese population here? hmmm….

Out of the way Turtle!

I just got back from scuba diving at Sipadan Island, which is an island of the coast of Borneo. The famed Jacques Cousteau put Sipadan on the map back in the seventies when he said “This place is a living piece of art.” After spending 15 hours on a bus to get here….. he better be right! Sipadan is ranked 2nd on the list of worlds best dive spots. But you would never guess that when you come to Seporna which is the port town and jumping off point for Sipadan. Seporna is a real hell hole, its hard to believe that the worlds 2nd best place to dive is only a 20 minute boat ride away. The Malaysian government needs to give this place a face lift. With in the 1st hour of being in Seporna i walked past 2 dead dogs on the sidewalk which probably died from the lack of food or disease. But that said once you jump on a boat and leave this crap hole behind you enter another world. Our boat ride out to Sipadan was really rough as the weather turned to shit. The sea was kicking up 6 to 10foot waves, our speed boat smashed through everyone. At one point i thought our boat was going to snap in half. When we finally reached the dive site i was in a bad mood… the weather sucked! the 15 hour bus ride to get here sucked! Seporna sucked! and now the weather sucked!! But when i jumped in the water everything changed and i left all that crap above. Click read more!

4 dollar flights?

img_0522.JPGOver the last four years i have spent a good amount of time in Asia, and of course have heard the rumors of the cheap flights for less then $10. The thought of paying the equivalent of a happy meal to fly seems crazy and more importantly dangerous. I mean what kind of plane is it? They must be cutting cost somewhere…. maybe there’s no seats! South east Asia has a few of these low cost airlines trolling the Sky’s. I have never really looked into these flight as there has not been a need for me. Most of the time for me time is not really an issue and i can get to most places by land or boat once I’m here. But i recently found myself in a pinch, i wanted to go to Borneo which is an island and to far to go by boat. I saw a newspaper while in KL advertising flights from KL to Borneo for $20, at that price how could i say no. I logged onto airasia.com and found these so called cheap flights. I was amazed by all the places they fly to, the trick to getting these great deals is to book a month or so in advance. But of course everything i do is last second so i ended up paying $40 bucks with all taxes included… still a great deal. When was the last time you took a 2 hour flight for $40 dollars? Oh and for you that are wondering what the service was like etc… Air Asia is great not at all what i excepted for $40. The plane looked brand new and they even gave us a snack and drink for free unlike most of the airlines in the states which charge for everything. img_0519.JPGSo for any of you out there that are planning a trip to Asia and for that matter NOT planning because you thought it was too expensive…. i really recommend Air Asia, its an easy and cheap way for those who are on a budget and a tight schedule. Thanks to these low cost airlines I’m going to get a chance to go to the only country in Asia i haven’t been to yet.. the Philippine’s. Oh and you might be asking “why is Jimmy writing about this crap?” well for some people its useful. I tend to get a lot of emails from people and friends asking for advice on where to go and how to’s etc… So i decided to start writing about that stuff as well and include it under my “Travel Tips” category…. Don’t worry i will still be writing about my random adventures…. and with that said I’m off to find one… or let it find me!
