Land of Leprechauns

img_1230.jpgIt’s hard to believe that it’s been over 6 years and 100 plus countries since my first and only visit to Ireland. Back in 2003 I was a much different Jimmy Swift, one without a passport and had never traveled oversees.

My girlfriend at the time came to me one day and said “Hey, there’s cheap flights to Ireland if you want to take a trip?” I didn’t know much about Ireland at the time but thought… hey what the heck it sounds like fun. It didn’t take long for us to figure out why the tickets were soo cheap….. January in Ireland is a freaking god awful time to visit! It pretty much rained the whole time and was freezing arse cold… but we made the most of it and actually had a pretty good time.

This time around it’s going to be much different. Over the years of traveling I have been fortunate enough to meet some pretty cool people from all over the planet. So I will be staying with a band of drunken leprechauns I met in India. This is going to be the prefect kick off to my yearlong trip… it might be a good idea to pack an extra liver.

I have spent the last week in Florida visiting the family and realizing why I left home so long ago and have never looked back. So far the only thing I am missing is my roommates cat meatballer. Here is a picture I took of him on my last day!

Zero to Hero!

vegas.jpgIt really is amazing how things in life can change without warning. One minute you are down $1000,  wearing a mullet wig with your arm around a minger and a cigarette hanging from your month…. to the next minute up $200 bucks with a half naked hot model around your arm! Well thats sort of how our Vegas adventure unfolded, but i will let the pictures tell the story.

Being where you are!

Venice BeachI’m finding that the one key ingredient in life is to be where you are totally. Most of us including myself are always wanting to be somewhere else; the present never seems good enough. The future always seems better, we say… “Well once I’m here or there or have this or that I will be happy”.

But I am finding it to be a never-ending game of chase. Once we get where or what we want, we always want more, we are never happy with what we have. So that said I think the best way to deal with it, is to be where you are, enjoy the now or present. I find myself back in Los Angeles, a place that I necessarily don’t want to be, but I am doing my best to enjoy my time while im here. After spending the last 4 years traveling the world exploring new places and cultures, one might think that there is nothing to explore in your home city. But I am finding that there are so many places in Los Angeles that I have not been to.

Today I set out to explore the Venice canals. It was built in 1905 to look like Venice Italy, but 1929 thanks to the great depression and the boom of the automobile, the canals were filled with dirt and turned into roads. Today all but a few canals are left, and the homes that surround the canals are worth millions. It was a beautiful sunny California day at the beach. Here are a few photos from the day, I also added a few old photos from the 1900’s.
